The Buffalo Employment and Training Services - Youth Services Office is responsible for providing youth with the preparation needed to find gainful employment in today's workplace. To successfully provide these services, youth are afforded the opportunities to participate in various employment and training programs. During the year, nearly 2,000 youth participate in the departments programs. Many programs include Individual Assessment, Career Guidance, Job Readiness Training and Work Experience Opportunities. Programs are offered to youth that are City of Buffalo residents. Listed below are two of the largest programs currently offered by the department.
City of Buffalo - Summer Youth Employment and Training Program
This federally funded program is
responsible for the training and
employment of nearly 1,600 youth per
year,
who reside in the City of Buffalo.
Prior to job placement, youth are
involved in self-assessment, career
guidance and job readiness
activities. Youth are placed in
various occupations during the
summer including; office, clerical,
computer, health service, child
care, senior care, community
service, parks and recreation, and
building maintenance. The program
also includes an extensive
Educational Component, which offers
youth an opportunity to participate
in academic enrichment activities
along with gaining valuable work
experience. Program applications are
generally available starting in
early February. The program is
available to youth ages 14-21 who
are residents of the City of

Year-Round Out-Of-School Youth Services
This program is available to
youth ages 14-21 who are currently
out-of-school. Youth enrolled for
these services are involved in
personal assessment, advisement, and
case management activities.
Occupational/Vocational training
opportunities may be available for
qualified youth. Individuals are
also provided with educational
remediation and job placement
