COMPUTER AND WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS
Introduction to Computers (4 days).
This workshop is designed to
introduce you to the basics of using
a computer such as how to navigate
in a Windows environment. Time will
be given to learning the keyboard.
Space is limited to first 12
customers. Please see front desk to
put your name on the list once you
arrive. Must attend all 4 days.
Introduction to Word Processing (4 days).
Learn the basics of Microsoft Word
to type, format, print and save your
resumes and cover letters. Must
have basic computer and keyboarding
skills to attend this workshop.
Space is limited to first 12

arrive. Must attend all 4 days.
Introduction to Excel – The Basics
(4 days).
This workshop is designed to
introduce you to the basics of
Microsoft Excel. Excel is a
spreadsheet program that works with
the entry and manipulation of
numbers and their labels. You will
learn to enter and edit numbers,
labels, and formulas, apply
formatting, save and print.
Space is limited to first 12

arrive. You must have basic
computer skills to attend this
workshop. Must attend all 4 days.
Introduction to PowerPoint – The
Basics (4 days).
This workshop is designed to
introduce you to the basics of
PowerPoint. Space is limited to
the first 12 customers. Please see
front desk to put your name on the
list once you arrive. Customers
should possess basic skills (Windows
and Word). Must attend all four
days.
Introduction to Access – The Basics
(4 days).
This workshop is designed to
introduce you to the basics of
Access. Space is limited to the
first 12 customers. Pleases see
front desk to put your name on the
list once you arrive. Customers
should possess basic skills (Windows
,Word, and Excel).
Career Exploration and Planning (2
days).
This workshop will engage customers
in a process of examining their
interests, values, and skills to try
and identify potential career areas
they may wish to pursue. This
workshop is suitable for those who
have limited work experience or for
those who are exploring a career
change. Must attend both days.
Job-Finding Tips That Really Work (2
hours).
This workshop will instruct you on
how to uncover the hidden job
market. You will also learn to find
and target employers and how to
effectively organize your job
search.
Interview Tips to Land That Job (2 hours).
This workshop will teach you how to
evaluate your skills (personal,
transferable and job-related) in
order to articulate them to an
employer during a job interview. We
will also discuss different ways to
prepare for a job interview
including which questions to ask and
which ones you should be prepared to
answer.
Resumes, Resumes, Resumes (open session
3 hours).
This workshop is designed for
individuals seeking help in
developing, modifying, or improving
their resumes.
How to Write a Cover
Letter (2 hours).
This workshop is designed for
individuals who do not currently
have a cover letter. We will discuss
various types of cover letters, the
proper format used and the
importance of each when applying for
job openings. Sample cover letters
will be given.
How to Create an E-Mail Account
(2 hours) This workshop is
designed to teach how to create an
e-mail account and how to send your
resume to an employer,
electronically. Customers must
have basic computer and typing
skills to attend this workshop.
Space is limited to the first 12
customers.
How to Use the Internet to Find a
Job (2hours) This workshop is
designed to teach customers Internet
basics and how to use the Internet
for job hunting. Customers must
have an e-mail account. Customers
must have basic computer skills to
attend this workshop. Space is
limited to the first 12 customers.
How to Become LinkedIn (1.5
hours) Networking should be a
large part of your job search.
LinedIn is a great business
networking tool that will assist in
your networking efforts. This basic
workshop will guide you though the
application process.
Mature Job Seekers Workshop (3.5
hours) This workshop is designed
to familiarize mature workers (ages
40+) with all aspects of the skills
required in their job search.
The Basics of Starting a Business-This
workshop will cover business plans,
business structures, taxes, funding,
and other topics to help you start a
business. This workshop is not
open to U.I. recipients. U.I.
recipients may contact the NYS
