On Tuesday, Sept 28th,
the Buffalo Employment and Training Center reached a
significant milestone!! Since opening our Center
doors in July of 2001, we have had 100,000 swipes at
our front door. The BETC was one of the first
One-Stop Centers in the country to begin using the
swipe card technology with customers to measure
daily traffic at the Center, and after 3 years and 2
months the 100,000th milestone was reached. Reaching
this milestone so quickly is a testament to the
great work of all the staff at the BETC and the
service they provide to the community.
Daniel Brassel of
Tonawanda was the lucky “100,000th swiper”. As
balloons fell, noisemakers rang, Mr. Brassel was
presented with gifts (generously provided by local
vendors) as he walked through the door on that
Tuesday afternoon. In recognition of this
achievement, cake was also served to the customers
and staff of BETC. Daniel is a fairly new customer
and was taken aback by the sudden attention, but he
felt very excited and appreciated. He spoke about
the kindness of the staff and that the BETC must be
a very special place to treat people with such care
and concern.
The BETC has worked
with thousands of people, helping each customer take
steps to find and keep that special job. We will
reach other milestones. Who knows who that “swiper”
will be, but he or she can be assured that they will
be treated with the same respect and dignity that
all of our customers feel. Our One-Stop Center works
towards the success of our customers. Even though 1
in a 100,000 is celebrated with balloons and cake,
each one is special.
